The Magic in the Mess

Today I received a holiday card from a dear friend that read, May we live in less interesting times. I've been chuckling at the perfection of that sentiment.

The final stretch of the year can feel downright messy. Many of us feel like we're the ones needing the wrapping paper, tape, and string to hold ourselves together. That this messiness is most acute during what's billed as the most wonderful time of the year feels unwelcome, and yet often the best magic is in the mess.

Chaos and mess, inner or outer, has the makings for new order. The grief, frustration, exhaustion surfaces so we can we can be with it and discern the magic we're yearning for. If you feel too tired for whatever plans sounded brilliant at the time you made them, pause, take a deep full breath in and out, and give yourself a beat to discover the magic you do have energy for.

My own life has felt plenty messy as I explore what's next for the way I work. What I'm sharing is what I'm practicing to source magic from the messiness of transition. As I've slowed things down where I can, I've been better able discern the next best steps and stave off worries and fear. I've been putting my attention and energy into the areas where the magic is available and stopped fussing with the mess itself. While the big next steps aren't clear, a lot of the smaller aspects of the mess are getting sorted with greater ease.

As we approach the winter solstice and new moon this weekend, I invite you to give yourself a bit more space to rest in whatever way that's possible. Light a candle, soak in the tub, sit down with a book, make yourself a cup of tea, step outside and look up at the stars, get into your cozy clothes a bit earlier.

When you welcome the quiet and peace of the longest night of the year, it ushers in more light to illuminate the magic. The magic may come in the form of next steps, things to cut from your to-do list, or sweet moments you may otherwise miss amidst the busyness of the season.

In the spirit of finding the magic in the mess, I'm offering a limited number of New Year Readings at a special discounted rate.  We'll meet on zoom with our cups of tea and explore what's present to bring the magic forward in your life during the new year.

May you remember to look for the magic in the mess in these all too interesting times. Wishing you peace, rest, and joy during the holiday season ❤️ 🕊️ ❤️
